Remembering Dan Long


A well respected man who was heavily involved with the Young Marines and other organizations within in the community has passed away. Dan Long proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for 22 years before taking on the responsibility of being Calhoun County’s Emergency Management Agency Director for more than 20 years.

After his retirement, Long became heavily involved in the Young Marines of Central Alabama. Retired Master Sergeant Long passed from surgery complications at a hospital in Birmingham. Senior Vice President Dave Grise says Long had a positive impact on his community as well as the young marines’ success.

Those wishing to pay their respects to Long and his family may do so on Wednesday, November 28th at the K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Anniston from 3pm until 6pm. The service will follow immediately after. The family has also requested that monetary donations be sent to the North East Alabama Young Marines.
