Beards for Books

Today is the global day of giving. One local police department has partnered with United Way of East Central Alabama in an effort to raise money for less fortunate children within the community to have books to read throughout the year. The officers are helping to raise money by growing out their beards. Jacksonville State University Police Officers chose to spend the rest of the year participating in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library campaign with United Way.

For $30, a child will receive twelve books, one each month for a year, sent to their home. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library allows parents and caregivers to gift children with the joys of reading and imagination. This library also provides early childhood development for children up to five years of age. Deputy Chief Brian Mann says the officers are taking advantage of not having to shave their beards for a little while. Deputy Chief Mann also says if you would like to give towards helping a child’s education, simply visit the University’s Police Department during regular business hours.
