The month of November has been celebrated as National Adoption Awareness Month. Calhoun County Department of Human Resources celebrated this month by holding a special ceremony for children who were adopted this year.
Staff members released 21 balloons in honor of the 21 children who went from foster care into permanent adoptive homes within the last year. Children get placed in DHR custody due to abuse or neglect from their parents. To Program Supervisor Amanda Raulerson, today was a very bitter sweet day.
Hundreds more children in the state are still waiting to be adopted into a loving home. DHR recruits and trains the families who are willing to provide a safe home for these children so they can have a greater shot at having a successful future.
