Gas Leak at Koch Foods in Gadsden

A hazardous leak at Koch Foods in Gadsden sent 19 people to the hospital. The Gadsden-Etowah County Emergency Management Agency reports that an Ammonia gas leak on Friday caused the Koch Foods building to be evacuated as crews worked to contain the leak. Ammonia is a compound of Nitrogen and Hydrogen and can be deadly if not handled properly.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of this leak. A spokesperson with the Gadsden-Etowah EMA says at no time was there a threat to people who live nearby the plant. The leak forced the closure of College Parkway but it has since been reopened.
