City Council Votes on New Jacksonville City Police Chief

The Jacksonville City Council has chosen a new police chief to replace Tommy Thompson who has retired after 47 years on duty. Captain Marcus Wood is currently working with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office over the patrol division. Woods started his career in law enforcement as a correctional officer inside the county jail before becoming a patrol officer then an investigator.

Captain Woods is from Anniston and will be the first African-American Chief in Jacksonville Police Department history. Although he feels like this is a great opportunity, wood says he will certainly miss his fellow officers at the Sheriff’s Office.

Wood will officially take office on December 12th as he will spend his first few weeks learning all there is to know about the City of Jacksonville and the police department.
