Commissioner Writes Letter Asking for Confederate Statue

Calhoun County Commissioner Eli Henderson recently wrote a letter to the City of New Orleans, Louisiana asking for the Robert E. Lee statue to be brought to Calhoun County. Robert E. Lee’s Statue has been removed from New Orleans’ pedestal in 2017 where it once stood. The commission wants the statue to be placed inside of Janney Furnace Park in Ohatchee.

The Park is a confederate themed park that Henderson helped establish and believes the statue would complement the park very well. Although Commissioner Henderson has yet to hear back from New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell, if acquired, he assures that the movement and placing of the statue will not be at cost to the county.
