The White House wants to send home thousands of troops from Afghanistan. President Donald Trump wants to withdraw seven-thousand troops from the war-torn country according to a US Defense official. In total, there are 14,000 troops currently in Afghanistan. The US military has been at war there for more than 17 years, shortly after the September 11th attacks.
President Trump hopes to be in a position to announce the partial withdraw during next year’s State of the Union Address at the end of January or early February. The Associated Press reports that America has lost more than 2,400 soldiers and spent more than $900 billion, marking this war America’s longest. Officials add that the President hopes to have half of the troops out by the summer of 2019, but no final decision has been made.
