Gadsden Looks to Turn Railroad into Pedestrian Trail
The City of Gadsden has agreed to purchase more than three miles of an old railroad line in efforts to transform it into a trail. The 3.1 mile railroad line owned by The Alabama Great Southern Railroad Company runs from Alabama City to nearly the Coosa River. The city has agreed to purchase more than 21 acres of line for $214,000.
Assistant to the mayor, Shane Ellison says the trial will be tied into the Black Creek Trail system to connect those trails to the riverfront. Ellison also says grant money from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs may be used to cover a large portion of the future groundwork on this project.
