Man in Custody in Etowah County on Attempted Murder Charges

Investigators have a man in custody in connection to the triple shooting that occurred at Hammett’s Towing in Etowah County. Brandon Chandler, of Fort Payne, is believed to have been involved in an argument that turned violent at Hammett’s Towing on Wesson Lake Road near Attalla last Thursday. Investigators say that the argument started over a transmission.

 

The violent altercation resulted in the shooting death of Steven McElrath, also from Fort Payne. Chandler and an employee for the towing business were also shot. Chandler was taken to a hospital in Chattanooga for his injuries and has been extradited back to Etowah County. He will be held on a $300,000 surety bond for two counts of Attempted Murder. The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate this incident.
