Birmingham Police Sergeant Killed

The Birmingham Police Department is morning the loss of an officer who has been with the department for more than 9 years. 44 year old Sergeant Wytasha Carter along with another officer, were investigating a possible car burglary in the 900 block of 5th when one of the suspects opened fire on the two officers, striking both of them.

 

The second officer, whose name has yet to be released, is in critical condition at UAB hospital. One suspect is in custody, one suspect was also shot and is being treated for his injuries, and another suspect is still on the loose.
