Longest Government Shutdown Ever is at 24 Days and Counting

It has been a record setting 24 days since the partial government shutdown went into effect and an ends to the shutdown doesn’t seem to be anywhere in sight. This shutdown is severely affecting airport security staff. Hundreds of thousands of government workers did not receive paychecks this past Friday.

TSA workers at airports around the country have been calling out sick since the shutdown began. Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta is considered the world’s busiest airport and flyers are waiting in TSA check lines for more than one hour due to the massive employee shortage.

Air traffic controllers are also working without pay. Customers are concerned because workers should be focusing on ensuring safety, not when their next paycheck will come. Airlines are encouraging flyers arrive to airports at least two hours before their flight to allow themselves time to go through TSA checkpoints.
