Police Chief Seeks New Police Positions

During the City of Jacksonville Council meeting, police Chief Marcus Wood suggested the council add two new positions within his department. Chief Wood address to the council the need to add sergeant and corporal positions to fit in with the department’s shift change from eight hours to 12 hour shifts. Wood believes that adding the two new positions would give officers more time with their families.

The possible added positions would also increase the number of officers on patrol at any given time. Since the department is already short two officers, the new positions would not be of any extra cost to the city. Council members supported the shift change as well as the two new positions. Chief Wood says he hopes to have the positions filled along with the shift change completed by early February.
