Little Red Hats to Celebrate American Heart Month

Volunteers from around the United States are helping the American Heart Association by knitting tiny red hats for babies born in the month of February. This year marks the fourth consecutive year volunteers from all over East Alabama teamed together to hand craft hats in honor of American Heart Month. These tiny red hats symbolize one shared mission of heart-healthy lives for everyone.

The hats also help raise awareness towards heart defects and what we all can do to prevent them. During the month of February, every single baby born at Saint Vincent Hospitals in Birmingham will receive a red hat. Allison Clay has been volunteering for four years and she says every year leaves a special place in her heart.

Clay says so far volunteers have dropped off 446 hats. There are hundreds more hats expected to be donated before the end of the week.
