John S. Jones Sensory Room Now Completed

The sensory room created at John S. Jones Elementary School is now complete. With help from Alabama Power, special needs students will be able to use this room to explore, relax, and learn. The sensory room was created by Alabama Power in an effort to help calm and relax students with autism and other special needs.

The room can also be used to develop one’s senses through sounds, lights, and other objects. Last week, Alabama Power sent volunteers to the school to paint, and set up all the sensory objects to go inside the room.

School Principal Tanya Clark says the smiles on the student’s faces were priceless. Principal Clark believes this sensory room is a huge asset and hopes more schools can add similar therapeutic rooms in the near future.
