Restoration Work at Cemeteries Scheduled to Begin

The Anniston Army Depot will begin restoring the Military and Prisoner of War Cemeteries starting this month. Existing headstones will be removed, cleaned and realign during the restoration process at the cemeteries. The restoration will also renovate turf, remove shrubs and trees while installing drainage and irrigation systems.

The Military Cemetery encompasses 355 headstones and the POW Cemetery has 29. The more than $330,000 restoration project will be done by a contractor with oversight from the Depot’s Directorate of Public Works and is expected to be complete by late spring or early summer.
