21 States Show Support for Attorney General Steve Marshall's Petition for Abortion Ban
21 additional states are supporting Attorney General Steve Marshall’s petition to ban dismemberment abortions. Marshall says that each year, nearly 7% of the abortions performed in the state are dismemberment abortions.
In August of last year, the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Alabama’s law which banned second-trimester abortions. However, in 2007, the Supreme Court ruled to constitutionally prohibit partial-birth abortions.
Marshall argues that there is not meaningful difference between death-by-dismemberment abortion in the womb and partial birth abortion outside it. States that support the petition include Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
