The Goodyear Tire and Rubber plant in Gadsden is planning layoffs during its second quarter. According to WEIS Radio, Communications Manager Barbara Hatala says the facility is preparing to reduce its production in the second quarter of this year. This could lead to people being laid off. The company has yet to determine how many or which positions will be impacted.
Goodyear has been in operation in the City of Gadsden since 1929. In 2015, the company underwent a $30 million expansion. According to GadsdenIDA.org, Goodyear Tire and Rubber is the largest employer in Etowah County with more than 1,600 employees.
