More Than One Third of Americans Harassed Online
More than 30% of Americans say they have suffered severe harassment online. A new study has shown that the internet can be a very dark and scary place for many people. The Anti-defamation League reports that more than half of all Americans say they received hateful speech and-or harassment online last year.
Although freedom of speech is a part of the First Amendment, sexual harassment, physical threats and stalking is not. Surveys conducted by the league shows that 80% of Americans believe the government should strengthen laws against online harassment. Since this has become a major issue over the years, social media outlets and platforms have made it a top priority to fight off hateful content.
