Next week will officially be Severe Weather Awareness week in Calhoun County. To help residents prepare, County Commissioners are participating in the state’s Severe Weather Preparedness Tax Holiday.
This tax holiday will exempt customers of county sales and use tax on certain emergency preparedness items purchased. Local municipalities in Calhoun County that will be participating include the City of Anniston, Jacksonville, and Weaver.
Calhoun County EMA Director Michael Barton encourages everyone to visit the EMA’s website for a complete list of emergency preparedness items. Barton says residents of Calhoun County know it’s not a matter of if a disaster will occur, but when and where it will happen. This year’s message is, “Don’t delay, prepare today.”
