Commissioners Select Director for New Animal Control Center
A new director has been chosen to operate Calhoun County’s new animal control center. County Commissioners recently announced that Chris Westmoreland, former assistant director of Cullman County Animal Control, will be in charge of Calhoun’s new animal control center. Westmoreland has more than 9 years of animal control experience in addition to more than 10 years in law enforcement.
County Attorney, Gloria Floyd says Westmoreland provided numerous recommendation letters from veterinarians and district attorneys. TV24 spoke with Commissioner Eli Henderson who says commission members will continue conducting interviews and look to hire several additional employees.
Commissioners chose not to renew the county’s contract with the Cheaha Regional Humane Society, which managed the animal control facility since 2013. The county will take back control on March first.
