Secretary of US Army Tours Anniston Army Depot


Secretary of the United States Army, Doctor Mark Esper, took a tour of the Anniston Army Depot earlier today. Doctor Esper saw firsthand how the workforce supports our nation’s military and its allies. Doctor Esper spent majority of the day meeting with employees and facility managers at the Anniston Army Depot. Today’s mission was for the secretary of the US army to get a better understand on the amount of workflow that comes through the depot, and how well the tasks are being performed.

The Anniston Army Depot is mainly responsible for the production and maintenance for both heavy and light-tracked combat vehicles, overhaul of small arm weapon systems, in addition to the storage of land combat missiles. Doctor Esper says that overall, he is very pleased with his visit to the depot despite the employment shortage. Doctor Esper will visit the Red River Depot in Texarkana, Texas where he will conduct a similar tour and follow-up.

His other responsibilities includes the recruitment, organization, training, equipping, and care of 1.4 million active duty, Natural Guard, Reserve Soldiers, Department of of the Army Civilians and their families.
