Roads Deemed Impassable

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies along with the Alexandria Fire Department were out last night rescuing a person whose vehicle flooded as they tried to cross Post Oak Road close to Railroad Avenue. This road is now clear, but, as we head into the weekend with the possibility of more severe weather, this road could be flooded again.

As we mentioned earlier, several roads in Calhoun County have already been closed and deemed impassable. All roads listed on your screen are closed. Those roads include, Mellon Bridge Road is closed at the one-lane bridge due to Choccolocco Creek flooding the roadway near that area. Gladden Lane West at the intersection of Circle C Road in Alexandria is also closed. Wilson Willingham Road at Highway 78 West is also flooded and deemed impassable.

More roads could be added to this list as we continue to get more rain throughout the weekend. The Oxford Police Department, Public Works Department and Fire Department are working to keep residents safe. You are encouraged to not drive past or around any barricades. Drivers are encouraged to stay informed on road conditions and allow yourself extra time to reach your destination safely.
