Public Information Officers Train with Course Hosted by Anniston Fire Department

The Anniston Fire Department hosted a training course at the Regional Training Center earlier today to educate Public Information Officers from all over the country. A Public Information Officers’ job is to coordinate communication between the public and media.

The three day training course educated firefighters on the importance of keeping good relationships with the media, how to properly convey the message in addition to having good communication skills. Several firefighters who have participated in this training course are now more confident on speaking to the public.

Captain Johnnie Phelps was the training officer for this week’s course and looks forward to training the next group of firefighters. Captain Phelps says the training center has several more courses prepared for firefighters this year.
