Research Links Hookah Smoking to Heart Disease

Saturday, March 9, 2019

The American Heart Association says hookah smoking can affect your heart rate and blood pressure. Although this may come as no surprise, chronic use of hookah is also linked to an increased risk of heart disease.

Researchers believe there is a misperception among young people who think using hookah pipes to smoke tobacco is less harmful than a cigarette. In fact, hookah has many of the same toxic chemicals as cigarettes.

In a survey conducted by the American Heart Association in 2016, 4.8% of US high schoolers say they have smoked hookah. Parents should be aware of the potential dangers from hookah use.
