As a result of the 2018 Parkland High school shooting, Dick’s Sporting Goods banned the sale of assault-style rifles and the sale of all guns to anyone under 21. And as of yesterday, the company has decided to stop selling hunting rifles and ammunition at more than 100 of its stores. The hunting gear will only be removed from stores where it does not sell well.
According to CEO Edward Stack, the company replaced hunting gear in 10 of its stores during last year’s third quarter, and those stores posted strong sales and profit margin numbers in the fourth quarter. Stack says that 125 stores will replace the hunting rifles and ammunition with “merchandise categories that can drive growth based on the needs of that particular market.”
