Annual World of Work Career Expo

More than 8,000 local middle and high schools students are currently receiving hands-on experience with a variety of high-wage careers. The World of Work Career Expo created by East Alabama Works, connects students with nearly 100 local businesses and industries within the community.

During this three day expo event, students are getting hands-on experience with Registered Nurses, Dentist’s, Engineers, Firefighters, Technicians and more. Program Manager, Carl Brady, believes this event is a helpful way to get students planning for their futures. Eighth graders were amongst the crowd of students that participated in today’s expo event. Students are glad to have this kind of opportunity presented to them. Although World of Work is specifically for students, WOW Connected allowed for community members, parents, and educators to also learn about the same career opportunities as the students did. Human Resource and recruiters from each industry were on site to discuss opportunities for high paying jobs in the area.

This was also an opportunity for parents to help encourage their child to pursue a future in the career fields displayed at the expo. Brady says without local businesses, this event would not be possible. Tomorrow marks the last day for the three day event. 11th graders from the surrounding counties are looking forward to exploring potential career paths at the Worlds of Works expo.
