Housing Agreement Reached for Gadsden Municipal Inmates


The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, the County Commission, and the Gadsden City Council have reached an agreement regarding housing Gadsden Municipal Inmates at the County Jail. Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton, announced that a new contract, retroactive back to March first, will replace the previous contract that was set to expire this October.

The new contract states that the Etowah County Jail will house Gadsden Municipal Inmates for a price of $650,000 a year. That’s an additional $300,000 from the previous contract. Sheriff Horton believes that this is a true unified agreement between all parties involved.

Sheriff Horton was accompanied by Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton, Commission President Joey Statum in addition to Officials from the Gadsden City Council. The new contract will go into effect Friday, March 15th and end in February 2020.
