Attorney General Steve Marshall Warns Against Home Repair Fraud

Attorney General Steve Marshall held a news conference with other officials and the Home Builders Licensure Board to warn people against home repair fraud. As storms and tornadoes cause damage to areas across the state, Marshall wants to advise consumers on how to better protect themselves while also warning those who are trying to take advantage of these disasters, that home repair fraud is a serious crime and will not be tolerated.

Residents should take the following precautions when hiring a builder or someone to make repairs. You should always ask if they are licensed and ask to see the licensed card. Check their license status by calling the number on your screen or by visiting Also, check for references, especially if the builder makes unsolicited contact with you.
