Southside Police and Fire Departments Purchase Drone to Assist in Duties

Tuesday, March 26, 2019

Local police and fire departments purchased a device that will assist with search and rescue missions, special events, and more. The Southside police and fire departments have a drone with dozens of features which make it out to be no ordinary drone.

It’s equipped with thermal imaging technology that allows the pilot to see during the night in addition to picking up heat signatures. The drone also has a built-in 100dB speaker for the operator to communicate through the controls at any time.

Police Chief Chris Jones believes this will be a great asset to the community, and other surrounding areas. Chief Jones says three of his officers will soon receive their certification from the Federal Aviation Administration. They will also study weather conditions, air traffic control procedures, and the safety and maintenance of the drone.
