First responders and safety organizations of Etowah County worked together to equip more than 200 children with the necessary tools and information needed in the event of an emergency. This year’s theme for the Third Annual Spring Break Preparedness Day was. “Be A Team Player. Get Prepared.”

The Gadsden-Etowah Emergency Management Agency and Downtown Gadsden Incorporated hosted the Preparedness Day Event. Ambulance Services, Police officers, Healthcare Providers along with Crime Scene Investigators are just a few agencies and organizations that participated today. Children who participated toured inside first responder vehicles while also participating in hands on demonstrations for a chance to collect door prizes.

EMA Director, Deborah Gaither is excited to see this event grow bigger every year. Children were excited to go home with prizes and knowledge that could help them and their families in the event of an emergency. Gaither says that’s all that matters. Agencies and organizations that participated are already preparing for next year’s event.
