Michael Shortt Resigns As Cleburne Co. Head Coach


Longtime Cleburne County head coach Michael Shortt has confirmed he will resign as the head coach of the Tiger football program. Shortt is the most successful coach in school history and one of the best in the East Alabama Community. In 21 seasons at Cleburne County, Shortt won 144 games, claimed seven region championships and made 14 playoff appearances. In 2001 Shortt led the Tigers to the Class 4A state championship game where they finished as the runner up. The Tigers returned to the semifinals in 2002 and made run to the quarterfinals in 2013. Rusty Mayfield has been tapped as the Tigers' interim coach.
