2020 Census Count Making Its Rounds in Calhoun County

Every ten years, the government requires an accurate count of the nation’s population. This means, every person needs to be accounted for in order to determine the number of seats each state gets in the House of Representatives.

The population total also has an effect on funding received for our community. Community leaders in Calhoun County are rallying together to encourage people to participate in the 2020 Census Count. The Calhoun County Complete Count Committee was formed in 2018 to increase awareness and motivate residents to respond to the 2020 census.

Data from the 2010 Census show that Calhoun County housed 118,000 residents. Since then, the US Census Bureau believes the county’s population has decreased by 3%. Census Data provides information for forecasting transportation needs, determining areas for housing assistance and rehabilitation loans.

This data also plays a huge role in receiving necessary funds for our schools. Complete Count Committee Co-Chair, Andy Green wants everyone to understand how the 2020 Census Count will shape the future of Calhoun County. For more information regarding the 2020 Census, visit www.census.gov.
