Second Change Inc. Kicks Off Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Not only is the month of April recognized as Child Abuse Awareness month, but it is also known as Sexual Assault Awareness month. To shine a light on this issue, the state of Alabama is going Teal. Teal is the color associated with sexual assault awareness and Second Chance Incorporated decided to host a Teal-gate kickoff.

Community supporters were encouraged to wear teal colors to show their support for sexual assault survivors. Food and refreshments were served as people learned about ways to help those who have or are being sexually abused. The Sexual Violence Program Director for Second Chance shares why sexual assault awareness is so important. Second Chance have several more events scheduled this month in an effort to bring awareness to sexual assault. One event is taking place next week. Festivities for the “Journey for Hope Walk” will begin at 11am on April 13th and the entire community is encouraged to attend.
