51st Anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's Death

Today marks the 51st anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Junior. The famous civil rights leader, known for his “I Have A Dream” speech, was shot on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4th, 1968 at 6:01pm. He died in the hospital at 39 years old.

Each year, the Lorraine Motel observes a moment of silence at 6:01 in his honor. The motel serves as a memorial for him, and is home to the National Civil Rights Museum. King was a Nobel Peace Prize Winner, a father, husband, and leader for hundreds of thousands of people all over the world.
