Highway nine in the Cedar Bluff area was shut down for more than six hours last night as first responders investigated an accident involving an 18 wheeler. Cedar Bluff Firefighters in addition to a hazmat crew were among the first responders that arrived to the scene of the accident.
Although it is still unclear of what happened, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports that the 18 wheeler was carrying a full load of cedar wood driven by a Cartersville, Georgia man. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The hazmat crew stayed on the scene for hours as they worked to clean up a large amount of oil and fuel spilled into a nearby ditch caused by the accident.
