This year’s tenth annual Smoke on the Falls Barbecue Competition is scheduled to begin in two days. Dozens of Cooks from around the country will be competing for a prize of more than $13,000 and bragging rights for the entire year. The popular event will be hosted by the City of Gadsden Parks and Recreation Department and will be filled with dozens of local food vendors, prize giveaways, an obstacle course, and more.
Participants will also be able to try free samples from the cooks that will be cooking in the competition. In celebration of the tenth anniversary, special attractions like the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile and the Talladega Superspeedway’s pace car will be featured. Janet Tarrance is the Parks and Recreations Events Supervisor and she says people wait all year for this special event.
Not only is this weekend the tenth anniversary of Smoke on the Falls, Tarrance also says Noccalula Falls will host a special ribbon cutting ceremony for its newest attraction.
The barbecue competition will open to the public at 10am on Saturday. Admission is $5 for ages four and up. The weekend concludes with an award ceremony for the Smoke on the Falls barbecue contest at 4pm on Saturday.
