The National Weather Service storm survey team confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Etowah County Sunday morning, and traveled for more than two miles. The area that suffered significant damage was on Rabbittown Road in the Glencoe area.
The Gadsden-Etowah EMA confirms that ten homes suffered damage ranging from minor to completely destroyed. An EF-1 tornado carries winds of 86 to 110 miles per hour. The tornado struck around 6:30am on Sunday while Etowah County was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Gadsden-Etowah EMA wants anyone who might have damage on their property to report it to the Emergency Management Agency as soon as possible.
