Alabama First Class Pre-K Named Highest in Country

Alabama’s First Class Pre-Kindergarten Program has been named the highest quality state funded Pre-K program in the nation for the 13th year in a row. Alabama is just one of three states to meet or exceed all ten of the benchmarks measured to determine a program’s quality by the National Institute for Early Education Research.

During the 2017 through 2018 school year, Alabama enrolled more than 16,000 four year olds, which is an increase of 2,000 children from the prior year. State spending per-child during the 2017 through 2018 school year went up $74 from the previous year. NIEER also listed Alabama as one of nine “States on the Move” towards increasing funding to expand enrollment and ensuring pay parity for pre-K teachers.
