Bill Approved Allowing Young Military Servicemen to Open Bank Accounts and Loans

The state Senate has unanimously approved a bill introduced by Senator Andrew Jones that will allow young military servicemen to apply for non-education loans and open their own checking and savings accounts. The state’s current law requires people under the age of 19 to have a parent’s co-signature to open bank accounts in addition to applying for non-education loans.

Senator Jones says that, “the men and women who have stepped forward to serve their country in the US Military are adults, and the law needs to reflect that.” This bill will now head to the Alabama House of Representatives.
