Early Morning Mobile Home Fire Causes Explosion in Attalla
An early morning mobile home fire in Attalla caused an explosion, injured a firefighter, and startled dozens of nearby residents. The Attalla Fire Department received a call at 4am involving a mobile home fire on Fayette Street. Attalla Fire Chief Robert Dillard says four people living inside the home were able to make it out safely.
As the fire progressed, an oxygen tank used for medical purposes was left inside the home and exploded. Chief Dillard says there were several reports from residents living as far as nine blocks away being awaken and shaken out of their beds from the explosion. Anytime firemen are preparing to go inside a home during a fire, Dillard says they are at the mercy of their safety. Chief Dillard says the firefighter suffered minor injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated a released. Carmen Douglas was inside the home at the time of the fire and she says although everything happened extremely fast, she’s thankful everyone made it out safely. The Attalla Fire Department along with Fire Marshals are continuing to investigate the cause of this fire.
