A Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at a local university will soon be retiring after 38 years. And to honor her retirement, the university revealed a special gift that will ensure her work and dedication will never be forgotten. Doctor Rebecca Turner began working as an instructor at Jacksonville State University in 1981.
Today, Turner celebrated her journey with many faculty and staff as she will be officially retired on June first of this year. Although Doctor Turner was involved in many ideas, and changes around campus for several years, a secret was held from her until today. A common area she helped established for faculty and staff five years ago has now been renamed after her.
Turner says having the faculty commons named in her honor is confirmation that she has completed her overall goal. After retirement, Turner says she has plans that consist of spending time with family, traveling, and get involved in some consulting work with the university.
