Measles Case Confirmed in St. Clair County

Alabama Health Officials held a press conference earlier today to announce a confirmed case of measles in the state. The case of measles was confirmed in an infant in Saint Clair County. This is the first confirmed case in the state after a reported measles outbreak in several parts of the country surfaced.

State Health Officer Scott Harris confirms that most of those outbreaks involved people who traveled internationally and brought the illness into areas with a large number of unvaccinated people. Officials are still investigating the Saint Clair County case to see if any people were exposed while the infant was contagious.

Harris says the best way to prevent measles is to get vaccinated.
