Wellington Man Arrested on Assault and Violence Charges

A Wellington man who allegedly threatened his son during a dispute is now facing more serious charges after getting into a physical altercation with a deputy. According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call regarding a dispute at home on Old Sulphur Springs Road where 63-year-old Donald Karns was accused of threatening to shoot and kill his adult son. When a deputy arrived, Sheriff Matthew Wade says Karns seemed as if he was going to pull the gun out from his waistband.

As the deputy wrestles the gun away from the father, and attempts to arrest him, Karns hit the deputy. With the son’s help, the deputy arrested Karns and booked him into the Calhoun County Jail on second Degree Assault, third degree Domestic Violence and Resisting Arrest charges. Sheriff Wade says Karns faces up to 10 years in prison. His bond has been set at $12,000.
