A hiking trip to Black Creek near Noccalula Falls ended tragically when a Georgia teen slipped from a rock and drowned. 19-year-old Lacey Head of Rome, Georgia was hiking in gorge with friends Tuesday evening when her foot slipped on a rock, causing her to fall into the creek.

A search and rescue team immediately responded to the scene. Chief Carroll say two Gadsden Police officers found Head down stream and began performing CPR. After performing CPR for more than an hour, she was pronounced dead.

Carroll says he wants people to be aware of the dangers when exploring nature. Carroll wants Noccalula Falls Park visitors to be aware of slippery rocks near the creek. The gorge is a treacherous area, making it difficult to reach if anyone needs assistance.
