JSU Prepares for OVC Softball Tournament

The Jacksonville State softball team begins its quest for a fourth consecutive OVC championship this week at Choccolocco Park in Oxford. The Gamecocks are the No. 2 seed in the bracket with a 17-5 mark in the OVC. TV24 SPORTS caught up with the team during its allotted practice session on Tuesday afternoon. The team has won nine of their last 10 games and they have surrendered an average of only 1.7 runs per contest in that span.

The squad boasts several senior leaders who have been key components of the Gamecocks' last three straight titles (2016, '17 & '18). This season pitcher Faith Sims has stepped up and become the team's leader on defense. The Cordova native leads the OVC with a 1.57 ERA, 21 wins, six saves and 11 shutouts. Sims has also posted three no-hitters, the most in a single season in JSU history. She enters the tournament with 31.1 consecutive scoreless innings. On Tuesday, she was named OVC Pitcher of the Year.

JSU is 25-7 all-time at Choccolocco Park with a 12-1 record in OVC tournament games. The Gamecocks are also 10-4 against teams in the tournament field this year.
