Study Finds Sunscreen Ingredients Can Enter Bloodstream
As we prepare to soak up the summer time sun, be careful which sunscreen you decide to apply on your skin. A new study has found that some types could be doing more harm than good to your body. According to the US Food and Drug Administration, several common sunscreen ingredients can enter the bloodstream at dangerous levels after just one day of use.
The FDA studied a dozen chemical sunscreens and levels were high enough to warrant a government safety investigation. Officials say more research needs to be done on these chemicals to determine if they are safe and effective. Barrier sunscreens that contain Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide are not included in the chemicals in question. The FDA still recommends you use sun protection to prevent skin cancer.
