Communities all over the state and country are dedicating this week towards showing law enforcement officers how thankful they are for their service. In Calhoun County, this week will be filled with appreciation meals, prizes, and friendship for all local law enforcement officers.
Six years ago, District Attorney Brian McVeigh began serving a officers with an appreciation breakfast and eventually spread throughout the state. To kick off Law Enforcement Appreciation Week, Officers were served at catered meal from Smoke-N-Hot Barbecue in Anniston. The Alabama Law Enforcement Appreciation Foundation helps make this week special for officers who serve on the line of duty every day.
Since the foundation committee has grown over the years, more than $40,000 in gifts have been distributed and more than 500 officers are expected to receive appreciation gifts this week. Each day for the rest of the week, officers will be served a different meal at the Anniston City Meeting Center. On Friday, a special ceremony will be held at Centennial Memorial Park for fallen officers throughout the state at the Alabama Law Enforcement Memorial. Everyone is invited to attend.
