Alabama Power has been fined $25,000 for violating levels of pollutants at the Coal Ash Pond in Gadsden. According to WEIS Radio, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management took samples from 18 wells around the now closed coal ash pond. In one of those samples, high levels of arsenic and radium were collected.
Gadsden Water Works performed test around the Coosa River and found no indication of problems with drinking water sources. According to Alabama Power, “none of the results detected pose a risk to neighbors, nearby waterways or water sources based on evaluations to date.”
