Auburn Police Officer Honored

Wednesday, May 22, 2019

Governor Kay Ivey has ordered all flags across the state to be flown at half-staffed until sunset on May 25th in honor of a fallen hero. This makes the third Alabama Police Officer who has lost his life in the line of duty this year. Officer William Buechner and two other officers were shot while responding to a domestic violence call Sunday night at a mobile home park near Auburn University. Buechner was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

He was a 13 year veteran for the Auburn Police Division. The two wounded officers are expected to recover. 29 year old Grady Wilkes was captured several hours after the shooting and charged with Capital Murder, three counts of Attempted Murder, and second degree Domestic Violence. This incident comes just days after the state honored the sacrifice of the men and women in law enforcement during National Peace Officers Memorial Week.
