"Born Alive" Bill Passes

Thursday, May 23, 2019

A bill sponsored by Leesburg Representative Ginny Shaver that would require a doctor to try and save the life of a child born after an attempted abortion has passed the State House.

According to WEIS Radio, in a 66 to 18 vote, physicians could face up to 20 years in prison and pay a fine no less than $100,000 if they fail to do so. This bill comes after the State Legislature passed an abortion ban bill, making it a felony for a doctor to perform or attempt to perform an abortion in Alabama.
